Congratulations to our newest artist of the month here at Abe, Berniece Leverton! The fabulous Bernice will have her work, Shape Robot, as a focus outside our front office for the month of February. Bernice’s piece has several layers to it starting with a circle painting in the background, shape printing in the middleground and in the foreground a princess shape robot! Berneice is demonstrating in this piece how to paint, print, cut and draw shapes! Whoa! That’s a lot y’all! Her princess robot has great personality and decorative elements like a crown, hair and even little toes! Super work, Bernice. We can’t wait to see what’s next.

This weekend, I traveled to the Milwaukee Art Museum with my mom, who is a high school art teacher, to drop off her student’s artwork for the Scholastic Art Show. Two of her students were awarded silver keys with their fashion designs in the Scholastic competition and their work will be displayed in the museum! This is a big deal to a high school art teacher and my mom was so proud and excited for them. After we were done hand delivering the precious artwork, we visited the rest of the museum. Thanks to a local donor, any teacher can enter the museum for free by just showing their teacher id. This is such a cool program for all teachers to take advantage of. I love to travel to museums to see the art that I teach about everyday in real life. One of the pieces I was most excited about was an agamograph by artist, Yaacov Agam. I have been teaching about Mr. Agam and his agamographs to fourth graders for the past two weeks and it was fun for me to see one in real life. -Julia Genrich Throughout the year the community asks for art. The three elementary schools are currently selecting art, which will be displayed at various art shows throughout the year. Don’t worry, you’ll get your art back. We need to keep plenty of it so that we have a big selection to choose from. We are selecting art for the Monroe Clinic Art Show, the Monroe Arts Center, Youth Art Month, which will travel to the state capitol, the high school production of Willy Wonka and the summer District Office Show. As these show get closer we will provide details so that all of our friends and families can enjoy student artwork in our community. Stay tuned for more information!
